Sorry, we had a comments page up where anyone could write in and it got spammed with some ugly stuff-- so now I only put those that come to me first.  We hope you can appreciate the problems that sometimes come with the internet.

I appreciate all the comments, the 'real' ones get posted here, and items helpful are placed into the next guide book edition.

Thanks for taking time to comment.

I just wanted to thank you (belatedly) for all the information and help you gave us as we planned for our recent trip on the Mickelson Trail.

We had a fantastic time! We had to alter our route a couple of times, but that just meant we drove (instead of biked) to see Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial. That was a good thing, since it snowed that day!

Anyway, we were so impressed by the trail and all the obvious hard work it must have taken to bring it to fruition - thanks again from a couple of Coloradoans for your, and others, foresight and hard work.

Sincerely,

Deb Carr

I completed the 109 mile route in two days, traveling north to south,
and camping at the Crooked Creek Campground in Hill City, SD, after the
1st day. Autumn was in full color and the route was beautiful. Thanks
Mother Nature . . .

I especially thought the interpretive signs along the way were an
"extra" touch that made the trail ride even more rewarding, as were the
1st class trailside shelters.

I would suggest that the Trail Patrol inspect and report any
abnormalities along the trail, e.g., just south of mile marker 39 (after
crossing a road on the path), while cruising along at approximately 15
MPH, I hit a 90' length of the trail that was very sandy - almost lost
control and wiped out!

Also, ALL the water wells south of Hill City, except Custer, were
inoperative, so be certain to take along plenty of water and do not
depend upon the water wells being able to replenish your thirst!
Just a post script to add to the preceding:The official George S. Mickelson
Trail map indicates that drinking water (I imagine a well pump) is available
at the Pringle, SD trailhead - NOT so!  As I did not locate any well pump,
I headed over to the General Store and with the kind permission of the proprietors,
 replenished my empty water bottles.
